Hi all-
I've seen a lot of questions (my own included!) going around lately about the GAPS and SCD diets, and I wanted to share what's going on with my son.
We started GFCF when Aden was 2 1/2 and got diagnosed with autism. (he's 5 next month) Started the DAN protocol, have done HBOT, and we've had great success! BUT, I just kept feeling like we were missing something with him. Like his food issues were beyond just doing GFCF, (not that we didn't see some improvement with that implementation because we did) and that he could be making way more progress than he was. And, we were really struggling to get the yeast issue under control no matter what we did. So, I prayed and prayed AND PRAYED for to God for him to guide us and show us what the next step was supposed to be for him, and then all of a sudden, some friend of a friend who I don't even know sent me an article about the GAPS diet. So we researched it, I read the GAPS book, and it all made so much sense to me! We "fit the mold" if you will. I also read the MSG myth book, which also was very insightful. One important thing I learned is that MSG has 40 different names, and it's in EVERYTHING, especially a lot of the gluten free foods!! I am positive now that Aden was having a reaction to the MSG- we realized it once we took away some of the gluten free snacks and bread. Major difference. So then I talked with a few people who have done the GAPS diet, (Lynne George being one of them) and we decided to give it a try. We saw a difference in him in as little as a week, if not sooner. No joke. I couldn't believe it. And he keeps making more and more progress. Instead of just using words to state his wants and needs, he is actually becoming way more social and conversational! He's sentences are expanding like crazy, and he just seems happier, and like he feels even better. He has had completely normal bm's for a week straight, and his belly isn't bloated and gassy at all. His imaginative play has taken off, and when I pick him up from school he can actually answer questions about his day, instead of just "I had a good day." The list could go on. And, yesterday his teachers said he had the best day he's ever had, and that he's really wanting to get more involved with class participation and the other kids, which is a HUGE issue for him. I was so excited. They actually told me they are going to video tape him to show me, and they just can't believe it. If they send me a video I'll share with you. I've been taping him myself at home, and I will share with you once I have a few of them.
God answered our prayers, and I'm hoping that this information can help others. That is the second half of my prayer, that we can use our experience and Aden's autism to help other kids get better, especially since the "powers that be" don't want to do anything to try to stop this horrible epidemic. It's only going to get worse.
The GAPS diet is more restrictive than GFCF, but the goal in the long run is to heal the gut so that they can move forward from it. It's totally worth it. I'm not saying it's the answer for every kid, and especially those with other food allergies, especially to nuts. But I think it's something to look at seriously, especially if you feel like you are "stuck" or your child's progress is at a standstill. There are a lot of great websites and recipes out there, and while it is a little more time consuming, it's worth it when you can totally remove and and all garbage out of their diet, or any offending foods. If you google GAPS diet, and MSG myth, you can find a lot of info.

I pray for all of you all the time. I'm so glad that I have all of you in this group to help and that we can talk to each other. We need all the support we can get.
Love and God bless you all

Dear ma'am,

Hi! How is Brandon.

My son has gained remarkable improvement since stopped the Tegretol.
the tegretol obviously was depleting his system. His motor skill dropped and the tongue/mouth muscles were weaken.

One month later, he is able to open his mouth for me to clean, can leap and bounce now, feeds himself, and tries to sing by humming. He is a lot brighter and happy too.

Thank you.

In my book Brandon's Window there is the pizza, breakfast juice and Beetroot lemonade we specifically make for Brandon along with the steps we use to teach him.
Brandon still does not eat foods when we give it to him. You have to find thing that your child likes on the Foods Recommended List and stay away from what is on the Foods to Avoid List.
Hope this helps

Dear ma'am,

How are you and Brandy doing?
Thank you for your help always. The inflammations my son used to suffer have stopped but he is still not verbal and still flaps and gets restless these days.

He would not take the home made soup any more so I mix it in millet pap for him hope he will at least get some of the fats that way. He is 21/2yrs and still resist some foods. He has also stopped accepting the carrot juice, so I give him juice from pear only for now.

He is on Efalex Omega H3+6. I read on the internet that dr Natasha recommends supplementing with Omega as well as vits A & D in the form of cod liver oil. Can add cod liver oil to the omega. The cod liver oil also has omega 3 anyway. pls advise.

Do not have Dr Natasha's contact. Are you able to reach her.

You promised to send a recipe.

Thanks ma'am.

Regards,
Maureen

Hi Maureen!

I am doing fine and Brandon is doing GREAT. Click on his latest videos and see

Maureen don't give up, It's not going to happen over night. You told me he said a few words after you changed his diet to the GAPS Diet. Brandon still only eats his pizza, cookies, smoothies and juice made just for him.

I am so encouraged and encited by the continues improvement in Brandon. Praise be to God who is helping us to restore these children. Indeed GAPS diet is working even for my son (now 2yrs 10 months old).

We started six months ago when the Lord led me to join this community and I saw Lynne's posting on GAPS and Brandon's window. Today, he is potty trained, regained motor skill to a high degree, do not tip-toe any more, feeds himself, he is calm, appreciate and expresses love with hugs and kisses and reasonable improvement in attention.

God bless you and your family and my regards to Brandon.

Brandon's Window (7/8/11) Autistic, Natural Treatments Help Brandon Become Teachable (Math)

3 years 2 months and 21 days after reversing/healing/curing his symptoms of autism using natural treatments, Brandon is learning Math from his great-grandmother.This particular day Brandon learns to Find and Write the Missing Numbers. Heal the gut, which in turn heals the brain and autistic individuals like my grandson Brandon become teachable.

Hello Ma'am,

I am so sorry I did not see this mail until now. I have been so busy searching for a job in two months and that has affected my regular e-mail checks and communcation. I stopped working for some months for my son and I am trying to get back now. Jobs are limited in Nigeria.

Anyway, my son, Emmanuel is fine. I see improvements everyday. He turned 3 yrs on 01/18/2012. He is much more calm now and responds to instructions now. He was completely aloof before we started the GAP diet. Now he like to associate and play with other kids. Even though he still communicate to me by humming, he is now aware of his environment, immitates, constructively plays with his toys now, with little flapping sometimes.

You did not include flour in the recipe for cookies that you sent to me. Do you not use flour? I am planning to order gluten free flour, can you advise please.

I have watched Brandon in the library. Glory be to God Almighty and I thank you so much for being there for Brandon and for all of us. You are a blessing.

Maureen

Hi Maureen:
No Flour, Oats, Grains, Wheat, Corn of any Kind. I have printed out the GAPS Diet Foods. The Food Highlighted in the yellow at the bottom of the page avoid them like the plague. We use almonds and ground them to a powder consistency for Brandon's Pizza and Cookies. Did I send you the recipes. Almonds are great brain food. I am so happy Emmanuel is doing well. Rememeber I am here for you. All you have to do is email me. Make sure everyone who comes in contact with your son follow this GAPS Protocol. Now that he is progressing, don't forget to begin teaching him. I started with Brandon's name. Emmanuel needs to know his whole name and who he is before you begin to teach him anything.Write his whole name on a sheet of paper. For example Brandon Paul Thibodaux . Make a song out of the letters. This is my song for Brandon. B- R-A-N-D-O-N (Point to each letter) Brandon that's who! Brandon that's you! Then I would point to him.
Dp the same thing with the middle name and his last name. Do that for 15 minutes everyday! Then get flashcards with pictures and words. Make a song about it. Example if there is a picture of a sock! Sing about it and go get your socks, his socks and describe it. This allows him to relate to it. He may not speak now but he is absorbing what you are teaching him. If you have blocks with letters this helps also. Look at Brandon's first video on YOUTUBE. Word/picture association.
30 minutes per day. Read to him 30 minutes per day just before he goes to sleep. Sing everything. Once he learns talk it. Talk to him constantly. he is listening. Good Luck on your job hunting. Will keep praying for you and one day praying to meet you and Emmanuel.

Blessed and Be Blessed
Lynne

Subject: Good News

Hello ma'am,

Emmanuel's progress is on daily basis and smooth. Now he has stopped flapping. Three days ago, he came to me, looked at my face and called me, mummy. I answered him and quickly carried him and he smilled. He has not called me again after then though, but its clear that his voice is opening up. That is how I can describe it.

All the glory to God Almighty, from whom cometh our help; and so many thanks to you. May God continue to bless you.

Can you please help me with the recipe for brandon's pancake.

Thank you.

Maureen
